About Orthodontics

Orthodontics is specialty of dentistry that focus on the diagnosis, prevention and correction of mal-alignment of teeth and jaws, which can cause some serious issues if left untreated:

  1. Tooth decay & Gum disease: Crooked teeth are harder to clean thoroughly. This can result in tooth decay and gum disease. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to periodontitis, a more serious infection that can damage bones and teeth.

  2. Chewing and digestion: Crooked teeth can also interfere with proper chewing, which may cause digestion problems.

  3. Excess teeth wear: Crooked teeth can also cause excess wear and tear on the teeth, resulting in cracked teeth, jaw strain, temporomandibular joint disorder, and chronic headaches.

  4. Speech difficulties: Misaligned teeth can affect the way a person articulates sound, causing problems with proper speech.

In growing children, orthodontic treatments can also help to correct facial structure, allowing the child’s face to develop properly.

At Dental On The Bay, we offer the following orthodontic services:

  1. Removable Appliances

  2. Traditional Metal Braces

  3. Ceramic Braces

  4. Invisalign®

Removable Appliances

Removable orthodontic appliances are customized to fit into your mouth and correct the misalignment throughout the treatment process. Like its name suggests, removable orthodontic appliances can be removed as needed, such as when you are cleaning your teeth.

They are usually used to correct single tooth tipping movement, to intercept development of malocclusions (misalignment of upper and lower jaw), and as a space maintenance.

Removable appliances can also be used as an interceptive appliance in the mixed dentition for simple treatment, within a short period of time. Interceptive removable appliances can gradually widen the developing bones of the jaws, creating enough room to accommodate all of the teeth and eliminating the need for extractions.

A functional appliance is another kind of interceptive device. The purpose of these devices is to influence muscle activity and bone development in a growing child's jaws, with the eventual goal of reshaping and repositioning the jaw bones.

Price: $600 - $1200

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional fixed metal braces use a combination of metal brackets, arch wires and ligatures to straighten teeth. The wires help correcting misalignment by delivering a constant, gentle force to move the teeth over time.

Despite being created nearly a century ago, traditional metal braces remains one of the most popular teeth straightening solutions thanks to their incredibly high success rates and general affordability.

Alternatives to traditional metal braces include Ceramic Braces and Invisalign®

Price : $4500 - $5500

Ceramic Braces

Clear braces operate similarly to metal braces. The only major difference is that for ceramic braces, the brackets are designed to be clear & less noticeable.

Like metal braces, ceramic braces are highly successful at treating medium to complex misalignment cases. Many people opt for ceramic braces because they are less noticeable on your teeth. This can be a huge advantage if you are considering braces but do not want to feel self-conscious while wearing them.

Price : $5500 - $6500

Invisalign®

Invisalign® is another alternative to braces. It consists of a series of clear plastic aligners that are carefully milled with exact calculations to gradually straighten teeth. These clear plastic aligners will gradually move the teeth into proper alignment.

The trays are nearly invisible and easily removed, allowing you to carry on with your daily activities with minimal disruption

Invisalign® is the preferred solution for patients who do regular sports, or patients who do not like braces.
