About orthodontics

When is the right time for my child to start braces?

As soon adult teeth have erupted, you are ready for braces. If your child is suffering from a “bad bite” or you are concerned about overcrowding, make an appointment for an evaluation. Our doctors will consult with you on a treatment plan and your available options.

Is it too late for me to start braces as an adult?

It is never too late! One in five orthodontic patients are adults. As patients are better informed of their options, we are seeing an increasing number of adult orthodontic patients seeking to correct their bites. Healthy teeth can be adjusted at any age. After all, everyone deserves a beautiful smile.

How long will treatment take?

Treatment time depends on several factors, including – severity of an individuals case and the patients compliance with the doctors treatment plan and reviews. Once our doctor has had a look at the patient’s case, they will give an estimate of the duration of the treatment.

About dental implants

Traditionally, restoring natural bite function and the appearance of missing teeth was a difficult task to accomplish. Dentures and bridges were used – but with some limitations. With development in technology, patients have the option to completely restore their bite function and smile. A titanium post that acts as the root of the tooth is implanted into the jawbone. In time, bone recognizes the titanium core as its own and it is able to securely anchor a crown, over-denture or even a bridge.

Am I suitable for implants?

If you are in general good health and are above 18 years of age, you most likely are a viable candidate for implants. There is no age limit for implants, only a minimum age prerequisite to ensure bone tissue in the jaw is fully developed. Patients suffering from uncontrollable diabetes, connective tissue disorders or under-going steroid therapy must be carefully evaluated. Do consult our doctors and get a full evaluation to access if you are viable.

What is the success rate for implants dentistry at Dental On The Bay?

Our success rate for implants stand at 95%. At Dental On The Bay, we attribute our high success rates to careful treatment planning, risk assessment, surgical as well as patient post surgery care and reviews. Most importantly, cooperation from our patients is crucial. Adhering to a lifestyle that includes dietary restrictions and maintaining good hygiene during their recovery is key to a successful dental implant.

How long do implants last?

Most patients are shocked to find out that implants are very durable and can last a lifetime. Implants also require the same care as natural teeth do.
